My internship research and motivation

Reflection - internship opportunity

I have chosen the internship report of Nathanael Horny. His internship was at Hype Energy in Spain. I would choose this internship because I would like to work in the consumer goods market and because I find the internship competencies very appealing.

When looking at this internship evaluation some things immediately caught my attention.

Something that I already noticed during my search for an internship and during my 2-day internship at Coca-Cola Belgium is that company culture is very important. Nathanael also thinks this and I like the way he talks about it in his report. This 'togetherness' he mentions is very important. Talking to each other in an informal way, having a drink after the hours and eventually become friends, that is something what I think is very important at a company and that is the kind of company I would like to work in as well. A company also knows this because this causes your employees like working for you and they will excel and improve in their job.

Nathanael also mentions that he came prepared. He only asked help when he needed. I think this was a very good choice of him. you do not have to be afraid to ask questions at your internship. This only shows that you want to learn and want to do the right things. But if you come prepared and you already know how to perform several tasks, the company and employees will notice and this will eventually lead to a positive internship feedback.

He also states that is important to use what you have learned during, for example, business ethics and business communications at Artevelde, when a company is active in different sectors and countries. I think it is normal and I also will definitely try to use everything I have learned in IBM into practice at my internship.

An internship at a company like Hype Energy would be very suitable for me but I will aim higher. I really want to work for a well-known company and doing my internship in that kind of a company will definitely launch my career.

Motivation - My internship

As I said before, the internship has always been the most important aspect of the program for me. I think that this is the point where students will and can distinguish themselves from the others. And I am planning to do so. From the beginning of the second year, I started networking for finding that one-of-a-kind internship. Since we have the opportunity to do this in our Bachelor I really want to make the best out of it and want to have one of the best internships of all the students in IBM. This is where your marks don't matter. There are a lot of students who are better than me at studying and they are getting better results than me but I know that there are also students, like me, who are more suitable for a business career. They just have the feeling, the drive, I do not know how to explain it but with having good results on your exams you are not going to become a successful businessman. By doing extracurricular activities, training and developing yourself and finding that awesome internship where you can learn and develop yourself, those would be the things I would be looking for if I was an HR manager at a company.

What kind of internship/job am I looking for? Eventually, I want to work as a manager that has interaction with the company and its customers. Sales, Marketing and Communication are the fields I would like to start in and later become an International Account Director, who is responsible for the management of relationships with clients.

I have received several internship offers via LinkedIn and via my network but I am still waiting for a response from the 4 companies where I applied for:

- Coca Cola Company (Spain/South-Africa)

- FIT (Peru)

- Volvo (China)

- KPMG (UK)

4 Totally different companies, all of them capable of launching my future career. KPMG, Cola and Volvo are my favourites. In all of the companies above, I know someone who is helping me find an internship. All I now can do is wait for an answer. Looking at my current e-email communication, KPMG is almost settled.
